  1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences....
  2. In System Preferences, from the View menu, selectAppearance (OS X 10.3 and later) or General (10.2.xand earlier).
    • To change the overall look of buttons, menus, windows, and scrollbars, next to 'Appearance:', select a color of your choice.
    • To change the color of selected text, in the pull-down menu next to'Highlight color:', choose a color of your choice, or selectOther... to choose a color from the color picker.

You may also set several other options, such as the location of scrollarrows in windows, the number of items displayed in the RecentItems submenu in the Apple menu, and font smoothing options.

  1. From the Apple menu, select Control Panels, and thenAppearance.
  2. In Mac OS 8.5 through 9.x, click the Appearance tab. InMac OS 8.0 and 8.1, click the Color button.
    • To change the color of selected text, in the pull-down menu nextto 'Highlight color:', select a color. To select a custom color, openthe color picker by choosing Other....
    • For Mac OS 8.5 and newer, to change the color of scroll bars,taskbars, selected menu items, and highlights, from the pull-down menunext to 'Variation:', select a color.
    • For Mac OS 8.0 and 8.1, to change the color of scroll bars,taskbars, selected menu items, and highlights, from the pull-down menunext to 'Accent color:', select a color.
