The software for the EZ-Backup service underwent major changes between version 7.1 and version 8.1. IBM changed the name to IBM Spectrum Protect (formerly Tivoli Storage Manager) and the look of the interface has changed. Most of the controls and procedures are either exactly the same or very similar.

Insert the Itch for NS6 installation disc. On the installation disk, Control+click ITCH for Numark Installer.mpkg and choose Show Package Contents. In the window that opens, navigate to Contents Packages. Double-click NumarkNS6midi.pkg to install the MIDI driver. The installer will force you restart when complete. Relaunch ITCH for NS6. Installation Instructions for Spectrum Protect Client v8.1 for

macOS 10.15 (Catalina) for Spectrum Protect 8.1.9 and higher

macOS 10.14 (Mojave)

macOS 10.13 (High Sierra)

macOS 10.12 (Sierra)

Mac OS X 10.11 (El Capitan)

This procedure is NOT for Mac OS X older than 10.11 (El Capitan).

If you have an earlier version of the client installed, please use our Upgrade instructions instead of these instructions.

Getting Ready

Before you can begin the installation process, you'll need to locate your copy of the email confirming your subscription that contains:

  • EZ-Backup Node Name
  • Initial Password
  • TCP Server Address
  • TCP Port Address

Please review the SP Version 8.1 Release Notes.

The install process requires the user name and password for an administrative account on your Mac.

Download and Run the Installer

  1. Log onto the Mac using an account with FULL ADMINISTRATOR PRIVILEGES.
  2. Download the installer disk image to your computer.
  3. With some browsers, the package will open automatically.
    If it doesn't, locate the file you just downloaded (called '8.1.6.0-TIV-TSMBAC-Mac.dmg,' typically in your Downloads folder) and double-click it.
  4. Double-click the installation package icon and follow the prompts to complete the installation.
    1. On the Welcome panel, click .
    2. Read the Important Information (and Print or Save if desired), then click .
    3. Click to perform a Standard Install.
    4. When prompted, enter your Mac Administrator ID and password.
      Note: This is the password you use to login as an administrator on your Mac, not your EZ-Backup password.
    5. When you see 'The software was successfully installed,' click Close.
  5. Close the Finder window.
  6. Unmount the Spectrum Project volume:
    • Click on the icon next to Device in Finder.
      OR
    • Drag volume icon on Desktop to Trash.

Configure the Client

If your department has its own configuration file, follow the procedure for using that file and then continue with the next section, Configure Automatic Backups.

  1. Download the EZ-Backup configuration file installer package.
  2. With some browsers, the package will open automatically.
    If it doesn't, locate the file you just downloaded (called 'EZBackupconfigfiles.pkg,' typically in your Downloads folder) and double-click it.
  3. Double-click the to extract the EZ-Backup configuration file.
    1. On the Welcome panel, click .
    2. On the Select a Destination panel, click on the appropriate disk, then click .
    3. On the Standard Install panel, click .
    4. When prompted, enter your Mac Administrator ID and password.
      Note: This is the password you use to login as an administrator on your Mac, not your EZ-Backup password.
    5. Upon successful installation, click .
  4. Run the IBM Spectrum Protect Tools for Administrators app.
  5. When prompted, enter your Mac Administrator ID and password.
    Note: This is the password you use to login as an administrator on your Mac, not your EZ-Backup password.
  6. Select IBM Spectrum Protect from the list, then click .
  7. If necessary, allow dsmj and/or dsmagent to run.
  8. On the ANS1036S error message, click .
  9. On the ANS9778E Error(s)… message, click .
  10. On the TCP/IP invalid host name message, click OK.
  11. When asked Do you wish to continue for purposes of local backupset restore, click .
  12. On the IBM Spectrum Protect window, click , then select .
  13. On the Welcome panel, select , then click .
  14. Click to start the wizard.
  15. Verify that is selected, then click .
  16. On the Client Node Name screen, for Node Name, specify the node name supplied in the EZ-Backup confirmation email, then click .
  17. Verify that is selected, then click .
  18. On the TCP/IP Options screen, enter the server address (TSM TCP Server Address) and port (TSM TCP Port) information supplied in the EZ-Backup confirmation email, then click .
  19. Click to accept the recommended Include/Exclude List.
  20. Click to accept the recommended Common File Exclusion List.
  21. Click to confirm and accept this configuration.
  22. When prompted, enter as the password the Initial Password from the EZ-Backup confirmation email.
    • This is NOT your NetID password.
    • This is NOT the administrative password you use on your Mac.
  23. When notified of a successful configuration, click .
  24. In the Backup-Archive GUI client, click , then select .

Configure Automatic Backups

  1. Run the IBM Spectrum Protect Tools for Administrators app.
  2. When prompted, enter your Mac Administrator ID and password.
    Note: This is the password you use to login as an administrator on your Mac, not your EZ-Backup password.
  3. Select from the list, then click .
  4. Click to accept warning that “the process to start the Client Acceptor Daemon may take a couple of minutes.”
  5. When prompted, enter your Mac Administrator ID and password.
    Note: This is the password you use to login as an administrator on your Mac, not your EZ-Backup password.
  6. Click when notified that “The Client Acceptor Daemon started successfully.”
  7. Verify the configuration.

Tidying Up

  1. Close any open windows.
  2. Drag any EZBackup or disk images to the Trash (which will change to an eject button).
  3. Delete the installer files you downloaded from your Downloads folder.

Update to Current Release

IBM provides an installer (what you just did) for major releases, then updates for security and other fixes. To get the latest security updates, please go now to Upgrade to Spectrum Protect Client version 8.1 for Macintosh and follow the procedure there.
